It is no surprise that the BNP website would report favourably on an call by a councillor in Calderdale for staff to be banned from wearing the burka and niqab. Councillor Alan Clegg, leader of the independent group on the council, claims that the full veil, which he says two council workers wear, "intimidates people".
What is surprising is that the BNP's sole remaining Calderdale councillor, Geoffrey Wallace, seems to have nothing to say on the matter, even though opposition to all things Islamic is the main plank of BNP policy these days. The BNP leadership must surely berate this "do-nothing" councillor for not instantly jumping on this convenient bandwagon.
