SEARCHLIGHT SOUTH WEST was set up in 2006 to combat the BNP in the region.
Supported by the South West TUC and run by trade unionists, the umbrella group closely monitors BNP activity in Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Somerset, Dorset, Devon, Cornwall, Bristol and Bath, bringing together anti-racist groups across the region.
We believe the way to defeat the BNP is within the very communities they are trying to destroy with their hatred and lies, so we go into those communities to encourage individuals, faith groups, migrant workers - everybody - to take responsibility for themselves to ensure the BNP remains an irrelevant force.
We want the BNP to know that whenever and wherever they go onto the streets to preach their message of intolerance and hate, we'll be right behind them delivering our message of tolerance and hope. more ...

This weekend the people of Bradford are standing TOGETHER against the racism and hatred offered by the English Defence League. Almost 11,000 Bradfordians signed our petition to have the EDL march banned in just three weeks. It proved to be successful and the EDL march, through a predominantly Asian area, was stopped. We have produced a short video to celebrate OUR Bradford.

BNP candidates exposed
If the BNP wanted to distance itself from nazism, the last person it should have chosen as a candidate is Andrew Brons. A man with a long nazi pedigree, Brons will get elected to Europe if the BNP polls 11.5% in Yorkshire and The Humber, a region that has long been a target for the party. Perhaps Nick Griffin, the BNP leader, hopes that Brons’s background will be conducive to forming good relationships with the various fascists and Holocaust deniers he has been courting. more ...
