News is reaching us that Cornish UKIP councillor Harry Blakeley has resigned as a councillor.

Blakeley, who represents the Cambourne Pendarves ward for UKIP on Cornwall council has claimed his sudden resignation is due to ill health.

After standing as a UKIP candidate for Truro & Falmouth in the 2010 general election, Blakeley became one of five UKIP Cornwall councillors elected in the 2013 local elections.

His resignation will now trigger a by election.

UKIP MLA Launches Attack Against Islam

posted by: Simon Cressy | on: Sunday, 14 June 2015, 13:21

UKIP's sole representative on The Northern Ireland Assembly has launched an astonishing attack against Islam following a request by Muslim students at Queens University Belfast for a multi faith prayer room.

The students claim they have to pray in corridors and corners at the moment as there are no dedicated facilities at the university.

In response, UKIP assembly member David McNarry has claimed that society is a risk from being "swamped" by the demands of Islamism and questioned whether Christians in a Muslim country would be afforded the same consideration.

McNarry said "Society could end up being swamped in terms of having to make room for it .
It doesn't seem to be a bit accommodating at all in understanding everybody else's religions."

There are thought to be around 400 Muslim students currently studying at Queens University Belfast.

More Trouble In Tendring As UKIP Councillor Quits Council

posted by: Simon Cressy | on: Tuesday, 9 June 2015, 09:44

More trouble and strife for UKIP in Tendring as one of their newly elected councillors has quit just one month after being elected.

Len Sibbald was for a brief time the councillor for the Rush Green ward and was originally one of the TenUKIP rebels that broke away from the main UKIP group on the council.

As pressure mounted on the TenUKIP rebels, Sibbald switched back to the official UKIP group, proving that UKIP councillors have little to offer when it comes to a backbone.

Sibbald's resignation will now trigger a by-election in the ward, all at the expense of the tax payer, with the council leader warning more resignations could be on their way.

Intimidation of the TenUKIP rebels has been on the increase with posters being put up outside their houses, leaflets delivered to neighbours and home visits and phone calls being made.

Never a dull day in Tendring.

UKIP Councillor Quits In Havering

posted by: Simon Cressy | on: Monday, 8 June 2015, 20:05

A UKIP councillor in Havering has resigned from the party, sparking an internal rift within the local group.

Philip Hyde who represents the Heaton ward walked away from the xenophobic party after a clash with the leader of the UKIP group on Havering Council, Lawrence Webb.

Hyde, who also stood as the UKIP parliamentary candidate for Ilford North tried and failed to overthrow Webb as group leader in the council chamber.

Councillor Hyde wanted to present a motion at a full council meeting to remove Webb but failed to give a reason why.

We can only assume Philip Hyde is a fair weather friend who used UKIP as a ticket to get elected and then developed his own agenda.

The Penny Drops

posted by: Simon Cressy | on: Friday, 5 June 2015, 10:13

Mark Chatburn with Farage

Mark Chatburn with Farage

The penny appears to have well and truly dropped for a recently defeated UKIP councillor.

Mark Chatburn, who was the sole UKIP councillor on Stockton Council, seems a tad disillusioned with his party following his recent defeat in the May council elections.

Chatburn, who defected to UKIP from the Conservatives in 2013, finished last in 10th place when he contested the Eaglescliffe ward last month.

Prior to his humiliating defeat, Chatburn was the UKIP councillor for the Yarm and Kirklevington ward.

The former councillor is less than happy with his leader Nigel Farage and described his resignation promise as "stupid" claiming it made UKIP look "ridiculous" and labelling it as "first class muppetry".

Chatburn further believes that his decision to resign was a "colossal strategic bunder" that was badly managed.

Adding further fuel to the fire, Chatburn writes that Farage and UKIP was made to look "absurd" claiming that the UKIP leader's credibility has been "shot to pieces" and attacks UKIP party chairman Steve Crowther for a "colossal cock up".

A gloomy Mark Chatburn eventually realises that UKIP is "rotten to the core", we could have told him that if he had asked.

Mark Chatburn, a very unhappy bunny.

UKIP Suspend Five Tendring Councillors

Suspended: Mick Skeels Sr, Mick Skeels Jr, Anne Poonian, John Hughes and John Chittock

Suspended: Mick Skeels Sr, Mick Skeels Jr, Anne Poonian, John Hughes and John Chittock

I wrote the other day about the bloodletting that is takng place within the ranks of Tendring UKIP, you can read that blog here.

UKIP HQ have now taken the conflict to the next level by suspending five of the rebel Douglas Carswell supporting TenUKIP councillors from the national party.

Initially, nine UKIP councillors formed the breakaway TenUKIP group, however four of them have since rejoined the official Farage UKIP group.

UKIP's chairman Steve Crowther suspended the remaining five rebels, Mick Skeels Sr, Mick Skeels Jr, John Hughes, Anne Poonian and John Chittock, claiming their behaviour acted against the democracy of the main UKIP group.

Some of the TenUKIP rebels felt so intimidated by their UKIP rivals that they contacted Essex police to report the threatening behaviour.

I suspect this is just the beginning of a fast moving story.

Tendring UKIP Torn Apart

posted by: Simon Cressy | on: Tuesday, 2 June 2015, 20:54

Mick Skeels

Mick Skeels

A bloody war has erupted in North East Essex, with two factions of UKIP seemily at each others throats.

UKIP currently have 22 councillors elected on Tendring District Council, only one short of the largest party, The Conservatives who have 23 in the council chamber.

Tendring council is based in Clacton, the home of UKIP's sole MP Douglas Carswell, and it seems his influence has rubbed off on a number of the UKIP councillors.

The split occured following a disagreement over working with the Conservative councillors, a disagreement that saw Mick Skeels, leader of the UKIP group on Tendring Council quit his post just a week into the job.

Skeels and the UKIP rebels wasted no time and formed the breakaway “Tendring UKIP” or “TenUKIP” group.

The Pro Carswell TenUKIP group initially had 9 of the UKIP councillors listed as supporters, whilst the remaining 13 stayed loyal to the pro Farage faction of UKIP, however the Tendring council website tells a slightly different tale, with TenUKIP listed as only having the support of 6 councillors.

The situation escalated when supporters of the Pro Farage group distributed leaflets in Clacton that attacked the TenUKIP group, accusing them of betrayal and being untrustworthy.

The criticism fell on deaf ears and the TenUKIP group formed a new administration with the Conservatives & Independents, with two of the TenUKIP rebels given portfolios in the new ruling cabinet.

Tendring UKIP appear to be in the process of tearing themselves apart.

Knives Out For Luder ?

posted by: Simon Cressy | on: Monday, 1 June 2015, 17:58

Ian Luder

Ian Luder

An interesting story has just landed in my inbox.

Postal ballots have been sent out today to councillors who are not members of the mainstream political parties ie Lib/Lab/Con to elect the leader, deputy, and the treasurer of the Independent Group of the LGA (Local Government Association).

UKIP's parliamentary candidate for South Basildon & East Thurrock, Ian Luder, is standing for the leadership against the official UKIP candidate and former party director Lisa Duffy.

Has Ian Luder walked away from UKIP because he didn't win his seat in the General Election or will UKIP have the knives out for him?

UKIP Councillor Guilty Of Electoral Fraud

posted by: Simon Cressy | on: Monday, 1 June 2015, 16:05

A UKIP county councillor will be forced to resign his seat after pleading guilty to electoral fraud.

Matthew Smith, admitted a charge of submitting a false nomination paper for Norfolk County Council elections, during which he acted as the party’s agent.

Smith was due to face a retrial at Norwich Crown Court on two counts of electoral fraud after being cleared of seven previous counts of electoral fraud in January.

However, the crooked councillor changed his plea at the eleventh hour in a plea bargain.

Smith represents the Gorleston St Andrews division on Norfolk County council and had been selected to stand for parliament in Great Yarmouth in the general election.

He will be sentenced at a later date.
