As Reform UK begin to announce the thousands of candidates they’re expected stand in May’s local elections, there are already signs that they might have yet again failed to pick suitable candidates for the job.

Meet Arnold Tabor, announced as the party’s candidate for South Elmsall and South Kirkby on Wakefield Borough Council:

While Tabor does not have much of a public profile, we are able to get a window into his worldview via the comments he leaves on YouTube videos from his oddly-named “Fluffy McSpankins” account.

In his replies to videos – often those from the far-right Lotus Eaters channel – Tabor has laid out some highly disturbing views, including encouraging the military to murder migrants by attacking their boats at sea and then cover it up and saying in another comment that the UK needs to “sink the boats and show we are heartless”

Tabor also has a plan for the migrants who do make it to the UK, a “huge walled workhouse city” with “no pay only a roof over their head and 2 meals a day”, conditions that sound a lot like the chattel slavery of the 1800s.

And it isn’t just migrants who come to a grisly end in Tabor’s fantasies – Africans still living in Africa have also attracted his unpleasant attention. In the comments below a GB News clip about the high birthrates of some countries in Africa, Tabor laid out his idea for the use of war crimes and economic exploitation to “crush their birthrates”

Tabor’s views on Ukraine and Russia might also raise some eyebrows. Just two weeks after the war began, Tabor had already decided that Ukraine should throw in the towel and cede half the country to Russia, even suggesting that he was “rooting for Russia to crush them quickly just to get it over”.

A few weeks later his stance was even out of sync with the national mood; he suggested that the UK should now let Russia take over the whole of Ukraine, send the Ukrainian refugees back there and then, for some reason, pay Russia to rebuild Ukrainian citizens and invite them to join NATO.

In his candidate announcement, Tabor acknowledged that he was not a “polished career politician”. Well, yes, but then again some things famously can’t be polished…
