The EDL demo in Bristol last Saturday was a flop and that’s official according to the Bristol EDL organiser and self confessed thief Mickey Bayliss.
Only 300 members of the far right group turned up for one of the smallest demonstrations so far with Bayliss telling the local media that he was “disappointed with the numbers which turned out for the demonstration” saying “more supporters were expected”.
Much to the relief of decent Bristolians Bayliss confirmed that the EDL will not be making a return to the city in the near future.
Bayliss from Bath was implicated in a 1993 armed robbery of a Bradford Upon Avon post office.
In 2008 Bayliss was accused of the robbery and sent to trial following new DNA evidence that linked him to a balaclava found in the getaway car.
Bayliss denied the robbery and told police he had not taken part in the raid on the post office, but may have been stealing cars for ram raiders at the time.
The raiders who were all armed made off with about £20,000.
The postmistress spotted them leaving and called the police. The getaway car later crashed on the A4 and three men were seen running away from the car.
Inside the car police found cash and a homemade balaclava with DNA on it.
Bayliss was cleared at Swindon Crown Court after the judge ruled there was insufficient evidence to convict him on.
The judge said whilst it was clear the DNA was that of Mickey Bayliss it could not be proven it had come into contact with the balaclava during the raid.
