It didn’t take long for the Pegida rally in Newcastle on the weekend to unravel into just another Nazi rally. Try as hard as they did, it became clear very early-before they had even stepped foot in Newcastle, that it was just another bunch of Nazis.
As well as one of the organisers being exposed as a British Movement activist, who should turn up as Pegida’s “advisor”? Why, none other than Donna Treanor, who seems to have her fingers in just about every Nazi pie in the UK at the moment.
British Voice, the political party abandoned by Nick Griffin before it was even launched in his honour, turned up. Mike Whitby, their financially challenged and often humiliated leader was seen searching the floor, looking for any money dropped during the regular fixture of a fight between the National Front (NF) and English Defence League (EDL).
British National Party leader Adam Walker may have all of the Nazis money, but it seems he can neither buy a friend or a razor blade at the moment. Did he just crawl out of his pit? Probably. Even serial wally Paul Weston seemed unimpressed by him.
Less than 400 bothered with the event, compared to over 1500 people who attended the anti-Pegida rally.
The far-right’s war against tourism is proving an expensive flop for the same old faces. This has been one of the smallest Nazi rallies/marches in Newcastle for years. Long may that continue.
