Arrests of right-wing extremists after several weeks of violence in Catalonia
The Catalan police (Mossos d’Esquadra) today announced that they have identified 5 men and 1 woman – all with a criminal history – as being responsible for aggression “for ideological reasons” in recent months in Barcelona. In all cases, they had participated in unionist demonstrations before the attacks or they were doing iso while they were committed. The researchers do not know whether any of them is part of any political organization.
The police investigated the 6 identified, all of Spanish citizenship, for crimes of aggression, wounding and threats with the aggravation of discrimination due to ideological reasons. The probe was conducted jointly with the Barcelona’s special hate crimes attorney, Miguel Ángel Aguilar. Apart from these 6 cases, Mossos and the prosecutor are investigating 8 more, all linked to unionist protests in recent weeks.
On the other hand, the Spanish police detained this week, in Madrid and Barcelona, also12 hooligan fascists for a fight between them on 12 October in Barcelona.
In Valencia, at least 16 fascists linked to the attacks on 9 October have been linked with public disorder and assaults on fundamental rights.
