Kevin Scott: Looking for new heroes?

Having limped along for little over a year, the British Democratic Party (BDP) looks to be in trouble.

Reports from Tyneside over the weekend suggest that the party’s Chairman, Kevin Scott, has offered his resignation after an enormous internal row about the party’s dismal performance and the content of its website.

Trouble has been brewing in the party for some months, mainly over its dismal performance but also over a number of personality clashes and even some snobbery about Scott’s regional accent!

Earlier this month the party website carried an article written by former National Front Deputy Chairman Steve Brady, who uses the name Steve Johnson to protect his pension with a well known German car manufacturer.

There was an almighty furore internally because like Scott, many consider Brady to be a “left- leaning Nazi” and troublesome.

Despite Scott’s insistence that the article should stay, it is understood that party President Andrew Brons MEP (he who so dislikes regional accents) insisted it be removed.

Scott and his sidekick Ken Booth dutifully obliged, but Scott offered his resignation mainly to save Booth’s bacon, whose sole political activity these days is worrying over the diminishing contents of the party’s shoebox administration. Scott has kept the article on his own website, however.

The other rows in the party are apparently about the insistence by the President that there will be no Euro candidates from the BDP. Some inside argue that although he is standing down, Andrew Brons should use his communication budget to fund one candidate in his old seat, or better still, from his final salary package.

Brons has refused and will instead of standing in his seat again, visit the USA on a speaking tour.
