Did the British Legion really ask neo-nazis for help?

Today is the launch of the poppy appeal, the campaign of remembrance for British, Commonwealth and Allied servicemen and women who have fought for or with this country.

Plenty has been said before about the attitude of fascists in this country towards the poppy, the symbol used to remember those who have fallen in service. Nothing is sacred or sacrosanct for such people.

This morning it has emerged that Billy Charlton from Sunderland is recruiting fellow race haters and neo-nazis to run the poppy appeal in Sunderland and according to him, with the blessing of the Royal British Legion!

Charlton is an associate of such groups as the English Defence League (EDL), National Front (NF), National Action (NA) and the Infidels. Hardly the sort of people who have much in common with people who fought the nazis in the second world war.

Charlton currently leads the Sunderland Defence League, a rag tag bunch of Hitler worshippers and bootlickers. Earlier this year he was a speaker at the ‘White Man’s March’ in Newcastle where a host of Hitler worshippers gathered behind Nazi flags.

This morning I have spoken to somebody responsible for the organising of the poppy collections in Sunderland, and they say they are unaware of this, but they are not really involved in the campaign/appeal any more.

It is a stain on the memory of millions of men, women and children to have these vile thugs who often carry the torch of the enemies of democracy to use the poppy appeal to further their tiny gangs and use the poppy appeal for their own political purposes.
