Catalan Diary
Thursday 2 November 2017 – from anti-fascists in Barcelona
Extremists gather to threaten Catalan MPs.
After the announcement by the Spanish nationalist organisation, Societat Civil Catalana (SCC), of the times of arrival at Madrid’s railway stations airport stations of Catalan MPS travelling to testify in court in the city today, mobs of right-wingers gathered at the El Prat airport (Barcelona) and in the stations of Sants (Barcelona) and Atocha (Madrid) to challenge and intimidate them.
In Madrid, the nazis of Hogar Social exhibited a banner under the slogan “Catalonia is Spain” and displayed the flags of the Spanish State. When the Catalans arrived at the Atocha station, the fascists chased the president of the Catalan Parliament, Carme Forcadell, and five other members of her team screaming “garbage”, “sons of bitches” and other vile insults as well as the Francoist-fascist slogan “Arriba España”.
In Barcelona’s Sants station, several fascists hurled abuse at MPs Josep Nuet and Anna Simó but were bundled out by the Catalan police and by a group of citizens who had gathered to show solidarity with the MPs. Josep Nuet is from the leftist party Catalunya en Comú and is an avowed communist but opposed to independence while being favourable to the referendum and very critical of the Spanish government. Although he voted “No” to independence in the Catalan parliament, the Spanish justice authorities have charged him. Anna Simó is a member of the left-wing separatist Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC).
Also, Joaquim Forn, a member of Democratic Party of Catalunya coalition (PdeCat), was jeered on arrival at the El Prat airport from Brussels by a group of right-wingers who chased him to his car.
