Michael Wright (AKA Morgoth) is a popular fascist social media influencer from Tyneside, now living in Northern Ireland. 

He first gained a following among the extreme right via his blog “Morgoth’s Review”, which launched in 2014 and gave commentary on cultural and political issues. The comments section of the blog routinely received hundreds of posts, functioning as a far-right discussion board.

He has since broadened his platforms, establishing a presence on Twitter in 2015, with his current account at 68,000 followers; a YouTube channel in 2018, amassing 71,000 subscribers; a Telegram channel in 2020, with over 13,500 subscribers; and a Substack in 2022. 

While Wright’s video content tends towards euphemistic language, his writing, especially for his defunct blog, leaves no doubt about his extreme racial hatred and authoritarian instincts. For example, in 2015 he wrote that he would be unmoved to watch migrants drown at sea: “Even if I imagine myself standing on the Italian shoreline in the Spring sun watching a boat full of blacks sink sending them all to their deaths I would still feel the same.” 

In an article dated December 2015, Wright defended Nazi Germany and quoted a passage from Hitler’s Mein Kampf about Jews threatening racial purity. “The Waffen SS were a reaction, a fighting back against genuine evil, the whipped dog biting back,” he wrote. In another post entitled “Merry Holocaustmas!”, he wrote that “the Holocaust is the primary tool used to cripple whites in the genocidal war the Jewish community is waging against them”.

In March 2015, Wright also spoke positively of Jack Renshaw, then a prominent figure in National Action (NA), a neo-Nazi terror group that would be banned under anti-terror legislation the following year. Wright quoted Renshaw’s extreme antisemitic outpourings, and claimed that he had contacted Renshaw to write for his blog. Renshaw has since been convicted for a plot to murder an MP and child sex offences, and is serving life behind bars. 

Wright has also shared NA propaganda celebrating the murder of Stephane Charbonnier, the editor of the French magazine Charlie Hebdo, by Islamists in 2015. In total, twelve people lost their lives in the attack on the magazine’s offices in Paris.

In June of that year, Wright deleted a blog titled ‘What If The Jews Turned Blue” after its central premise was referred to in the manifesto of Dylann Roof, who murdered nine congregants at a church in Charleston, South Carolina. Wright acknowledged that Roof’s manifesto reference was “remarkably similar” to his blog, and said “knowing you influenced a mass murderer doesn’t sit well!”

Wright has toned down his more extreme language in recent years, and as a result has found a broader reach among the far right. For example, he has appeared as a guest on the Lotus Eaters show and written for that group’s magazine. However, he remains immersed in the extreme right, maintaining links to the neo-Nazi group Patriotic Alternative (PA) since its early days.

Throughout his career in the far right, Wright has taken great pains to keep his identity secret. However, in May 2025, HOPE not hate revealed Wright’s identity for the first time, following the infiltration of Scyldings conference he had attended in 2023.
