HOPE not hate is Britain’s leading anti-fascist campaign group. We organise people online and offline to build communities that are resilient to hate, and use cutting-edge research to expose the far-right. Researcher

Salary: £33,000

Contract: FTC until June 2026

Reports to: Director of Research

Benefits: Nine-day fortnight (with alternate Fridays designated as a day off), pension contributions, 25 days annual leave, staff learning fund, enhanced parental benefits package.

Based in: London office, with an optional hybrid model, but expected to be in the office at least two days a week.

HOPE not hate are looking for a researcher to join the HOPE not hate Research Team. The role will include:

  • Monitoring, researching and publishing relevant articles and reports about the radical and far right. 
  • Working with teams across HOPE not hate to ensure they have relevant information for campaigns. 
  • Working with the rest of the research team on a range of projects about the domestic and international far right. 

The type of person we are looking for:

  • Someone passionate about opposing the far right and hate in all its forms. Being able to demonstrate a knowledge of the far right would be helpful. 
  • Someone with excellent research and investigative skills. Whether in journalism, academia or activism, the person must be able to demonstrate a passion and track record for research. 
  • Someone with excellent writing skills. You will be required to write and publish regularly. 
  • Someone with an interest in online research and open-source intelligence techniques. 
  • Someone who is proactive, innovative and intelligent and is able to work fast and independently. 
  • Someone who can demonstrate emotional resilience when working on a tough issue in a high pressure climate. We understand that our work can be stressful, and we have support in place for all team members who need it, but we encourage applicants to think carefully about whether they are prepared to work on this subject area day in day out.

About the team:

Research is at the heart of HOPE not hate’s work. It enables us to understand our opponents, it gives us the information and ability to challenge and counter hate, it directs and supports our community organising and campaigning, and it provides vital background that shapes our educational work.
