The Mallard is a small right-wing blog set up in 2016. Describing itself as “conservative”, the outlet is far to the right of even the current incarnation of the Conservative Party and gives voice to a niche brand of “High Tory” philosophy, popular among some right-wing university students and few others.
Despite the efforts to maintain a mainstream appearance, its output indicates that The Mallard’s authors share much in common with more lowbrow outlets of the far right; for example, editor-in-chief Samuel Martin complains of “anti-whiteness” and endorses anti-migrant posts from the fascist activist Steve Laws on X.
An article written by the Lotus Eaters host Benjamin “Beau” Dade in 2022 fantasised about deporting “millions” of British citizens so the country could “rid itself of the foreign plague we have been diseased with”. The article was deleted from the website shortly after publication.
In February 2025, HOPE not hate published the leaked chat of The Mallard’s editorial staff. Jake Scott, the website’s co-founder and chairman, had used the antisemitic “echoes” meme, adding three brackets around a word to denote Jewish influence. He also joked with his colleagues at the outlet about adding swastikas into articles and said that a gay commentator should be “castrated”.
