Formed in 2018, the BDF remains basically the trio of party leader Jayda Fransen,  ex-BNP leader Nick Griffin and his consigliere Jim Dowson. BFP has given up on its earlier strategy of standing Fransen in elections to spoil their far–right rivals, particularly Paul Golding of Britain First. Although Fransen still broadcasts Griffin’s irregular rants and political briefings, it’s becoming clear Fransen is not, nor does she want to be, the foil against Griffin and Dowson’s real enemies – Golding and Lennon.

Dowson and Griffin have increasingly spent time on Dowson’s religious projects which has included (of all things) the building of an apparent chapel in Dowson’s back garden from where he broadcasts religious sermons. If anything, Dowson and Griffin seem far more interested in the far– right in the Irish Republic where their protégé Niall McConnell has an increasingly disruptive relationship with better established neo-nazis and fascists there.
