STOP REFORM UK’S FAR-RIGHT AGENDA

Reform UK’s rise is a threat to our communities, spreading division and pushing far-right ideas. In the 2024 General Election, they garnered 4.1 million votes, making it the largest GE vote share ever for a far-right party in the UK. Their success mirrors the troubling rise of similar far-right movements across Europe. If we don’t act now, we risk seeing their influence grow even further in future local, mayoral, and general elections.

WHAT IS REFORM UK?

Reform UK is the latest vehicle for Nigel Farage and his allies to spread far-right, anti-immigration, and populist politics. Despite their small structure, they’ve managed to capitalise on public frustration and media support to win millions of votes. Browse selected features from our new report for a better understanding of the threat they pose.

WHAT REFORM VOTERS REALLY THINK

New polling of 4,000 Reform UK voters shows a diverse range of views. While 95% feel Britain is in decline, many support progressive policies on regulating water companies, improving workers’ rights, and renationalising rail. Despite strong anti-immigration views, there are opportunities to engage these voters on economic and environmental issues.

KEY INSIGHTS

  • Reform UK voters are not a monolithic bloc. Those earning less than £30k are more economically left-leaning compared to those making over £50k, who are more libertarian and small government in their outlook.
  • Immigration is the issue of greatest concern for Reform UK voters, but it coexists with deep economic and political pessimism, national decline, and distrust in the political process.
  • Over three-quarters (77.4%) support the regulation of water companies to clean up rivers, lakes, and seas in the UK.
  • Among ex-Labour voters, nearly three-quarters support more equitable wealth redistribution.
  • Half of Reform voters (49%) back Labour’s plan to improve workers’ rights by banning zero-hour contracts, ending fire and rehire, and strengthening sick pay, while 46% support bringing rail companies under public control.
  • Over eight in ten Reform voters (84%) think the political system is broken, and 92% believe that “politicians don’t listen to people like me.”
  • While reaching Reform UK voters on immigration or multiculturalism may be difficult, many are open to progressive policies on other issues.

EUROPE’S FAR-RIGHT SURGE

Reform UK’s rise mirrors a growing far-right movement across Europe, where parties in countries like Austria, Italy, and France are exploiting economic fears and cultural divisions. These movements threaten liberal democracy across the continent.
