A TIMELINE OF HATE

  • 2004-2005 – Lennon is a member of the British National Party.
  • 2005 (April) – Lennon is convicted of assaulting an off-duty police officer, and receives a sentence of 12 months and three months.
  • 2009 – Lennon forms the United People of Luton.
  • 2009 – Lennon forms the English Defence League (EDL).
  • 2011 (February) – The EDL reaches its peak with 3,000 people at its Luton demonstration.
  • 2011 (July) – Lennon is convicted after leading a brawl involving 100 Luton Town F.C. hooligans. He was sentenced to a 12-month community rehabilitation order, 150 hours of unpaid work, and given a three-year football banning order.
  • 2011 (November) – Lennon is again convicted but narrowly avoids another custodial sentence, this time for assault after head-butting another EDL member at a demonstration. The same month, he is also arrested following a protest on the rooftop of the FIFA headquarters in Zurich which resulted in him being detained for three days and fined £3,000.
  • 2012 (October) – Lennon is arrested and held having entered the United States illegally using a passport in the name of Andrew McMaster. He was subsequently sentenced to 10 months in prison.
  • 2012 (November) – Lennon is charged with mortgage fraud amounting to £160,000. He pleaded guilty to two charges and in January 2014 was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment.
  • 2013 (May) – The murder of Lee Rigby sees the faltering EDL rally briefly.
  • 2013 (October) – Lennon stands down as EDL leader.
  • 2016 (February) – Lennon launches PEGIDA UK.
  • 2017 – Lennon joins Canadian far-right website Rebel News as a “reporter”.
  • 2017 (May) – Lennon is charged and convicted with contempt of court for prejudicing a trial in Canterbury.
  • 2018 (March) – Lennon is banned by Twitter.
  • 2018 (May) – Lennon is arrested at Leeds Crown Court and admitted contempt of court by publishing information that could prejudice a trial and was sentenced to 13 months in prison. The event spawned the “Free Tommy” movement.
  • 2018 (October) – Lennon produces a video accusing a young Syrian refugee, Jamal Hijazi, of being a violent school bully.
  • 2019 (February) – Lennon is banned by Facebook and Instagram.
  • 2019 (April) – YouTube restricts features on Lennon’s account. Snapchat terminates his account.
  • 2019 (April) – Papers are served against Lennon accusing him of libeling the Syrian schoolboy.
  • 2020 (April) – Lennon is banned by TikTok. Russian social media site VK also bans him.
  • 2021 (July) – Lennon is found guilty of libeling a young Syrian refugee and is ordered to pay £100,000 plus legal costs. An injunction was also granted to stop him from repeating the libel.
  • 2021 (October) – Lennon is convicted of stalking a journalist and given a five-year ban from contacting or mentioning her.
  • 2023 (April) – Lennon screens his libelous film “Silenced” at an event in Copenhagen hosted by the Danish People’s Party and The Free Press Society.
  • 2023 (April) – HOPE not hate launches a campaign and 15,000 supporters sign our open letter to the Attorney General calling for action.
  • 2023 (November) – Lennon’s Twitter account is reinstated following Elon Musk’s acquisition of the platform.
  • 2024 (June) – The Solicitor General finally launches legal action against Lennon for breaking the injunction.
  • 2024 (July) – Lennon holds a huge demonstration in London that attracts between 20-30,000 people.
