Restore Britain: More fascists in Makerfield

David Lawrence - 09 06 26

HOPE not hate exposes even more figures associated with fascist and neo-Nazi groups campaigning for Restore in the Makerfield by-election. These are just the latest in a string of extremists we have identified at party events.

Since launching as a party in February, Restore Britain has recruited across the fascist fringes.

We have already exposed figures linked to an array of fascist and neo-Nazi groups now active within Rupert Lowe’s party, including the British National Party (BNP), the National Front, Blood & Honour, the Active Club network and more.

Restore has opened its doors to this extreme element. Last month, the leadership publicly apologised to Saskia Teague, an open ethnonationalist who was disinvited to an event by a party administrator, and overrode a local organiser’s attempt to eject a neo-Nazi who had been exposed by HOPE not hate.

Now Restore is channelling its considerable manpower into the Makerfield by-election on 18 June. In May, we revealed that figures associated with the neo-Nazi group Patriotic Alternative (PA) are campaigning for candidate Rebecca Shepherd in the constituency.

Today we expose another trio of Restore activists in Makerfield who have pasts in the BNP, PA and/or its splinter groups.

Richard Lumby

Snapped canvassing in the constituency last weekend was Richard Lumby, a Birmingham-based activist who has spent two decades in extreme right politics.

Lumby joined the BNP in 2005, rising to become a local organiser and representing the fascist party in a string of failed election bids.

He went on to join Patriotic Alternative after its launch in 2019, becoming an officer in the West Midlands branch. However, following a personal dispute, Lumby and other PA activists split to form the Independent Nationalist Network (INN) in 2021.

Under Lumby’s de-facto leadership, this tiny fascist “collective” established links to the militant anti-vaccine scene, in particular Alpha Team Assemble (ATA). In 2022, Lumby attended an ATA event in Staffordshire where black-clad members drilled combat sports to prepare for “war” with the government, and ATA leader Danny Glass was recorded telling members to “take it to the Old Bill. It’s not for the faint hearted, but we’re going to go and fucking do ’em”.

Glass became close to Lumby and the INN.

The INN dabbled in the anti-migrant and anti-LGBT+ protests, and attempted to repair rifts on the extreme right by organising a “unity” meeting in 2023, attended by leading neo-Nazis from PA, the Highland Division and figures since prosecuted for race hate offences.

Lumby remained on good terms with ex-BNP leader Nick Griffin, who collaborated with INN before it dissolved in 2024, having achieved little of note. We have previously exposed other former members of INN now active within Restore.

Lumby has remained active in the fascist fringess, attending a Coventry meeting of the National Rebirth Party, a crankish but extreme PA splinter, this March. He also joined The Shield, a Birmingham-based street group led by a man who claims violence is his “comfort zone”.

However, he claimed this month that he is “leaving The Shield […] to concentrate on Restore.”

Lewis Allsebrook

Pictured canvassing alongside Lumby in Makerfield was Lewis Allsebrook, who returned to the constituency from his home in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire last weekend.

Allsebrook is a former BNP councillor, joining the party in 2005 and serving on Amber Valley Borough Council from 2008 to 2012. Reflecting on his time in the BNP, he recently claimed that its “decline” began “the moment the constitution had to change to comply with laws preventing a “white only” membership policy”.

After a period of inactivity, he re-emerged last year, flirting with the Homeland Party and joining the National Rebirth Party, addressing a meeting in Leeds in November and writing for the group’s website.

He soon threw his lot in with Restore, considering it more “radical” even than the BNP. He continues to dabble in various organisations orbiting Restore, in particular the Prioritise Britain outfit run by the ethnonationalist Hugh Anthony.

David Marshall

Another figure snapped in Makerfield last month was David Marshall, based in Preston, who has made at least two trips to canvass for Rebecca Shepherd.

Marshall joined the Homeland Party, the largest of the PA splinter groups, last March and quickly became the fascist group’s Lancashire organiser.

He appears to remain involved in Homeland despite his recent activism for Restore, claiming that Lowe has echoed Homeland’s policies on “remigration”, a euphemism for state-run ethnic cleansing, “almost word for word”.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. There are more extremists at Restore events – and we will expose them in due course.
